Ack!  Well, to me a compound bow has pulleys and multiple cables.  The full force of the draw occurs at the beginning, so for example a 70 pound compound bow would only be about 30 pounds when fully drawn.  This has nothing to do with ancient archery however, so I'm going to pretend I never had this conversation!  :)  I really should look into some accurate archery history.
